Dried Out Carb and Fuel Resedue

Postby kfxnando » Sat Apr 10, 2010 3:57 am

well this is a lo story

our Honda TRX250TM, was Brute Girl's old and 1st quad!!

it stood for periods of time while no one rode, besides the occasional start up in the garage, and eventually the battery died (story why that battery died as well)

so as finances have started to improve, a new battery was bought Fitted and then the shock surprise happened!!
it would not idle
would not rev

not good  !!!

so the obvious place to look was the Carb, knew it had dried up, tried every thing before having to remove the Carburetor from the quad, however in the end there was little choice, and in the end the carb was removed and refitted about 8times!!

on the 1st time of stripping found the Main Jet Blocked, so did the obvious thing and opened the hole with a strand of wire from the wire brush, after assembling there was progress, however not right
it would now idle with the choke on

now further cleaned with fuel and air, and not much change

added a cleaning agent to he fuel that also helps to prevent moisture build up in fuel tanks and still no change

stripped again and blew all the holes and cleaned ll the jets again with fuel, cleaning agent and blew every hole, this time with 6bar of air

minor change!!

left it overnight in petrol, blew every thing out all over again == SAME!!!!

got some carb cleaner == SAME!!!!

pulled out the one long thing jet Like (not a jet on the outside of the carb) slight change

drained the tank and filled with fresh fuel == STILL NO CHANGE!!!

eventually a friend, suggested that it sounded like it was running lean as the revs climbed, that makes sense as that is why it would be better with the choke out!!

so pulled out the newly acquired gas tester, and yep would go way lean before it would start to miss and want to die!!

however had checked every thing over and over!!
so out came the carb again, and this time even though the main jet has a visible hole took a sowing needle and forced it through!!
to make sure if there was any thing else left in the hole not visible to the eye, that it would come out, after forcing it a bit it did seem to go through easier, and yep, that solved the issue!!

it now idles like it did before, runs well, responds to a full throttle with out dying and runs through
have not had time or space to see if it will go to full revs in top gear, however believe it will!!

so now we again have 3 running quads, and now to plan for the next ride!!
