Mazda/Ford B-series/proceed and the 3.4L V6 story

Postby kfxnando » Wed May 26, 2010 4:04 pm

well after yesterdays short morning trip, and getting some info, well ok, huge amounts of info

well will share all that info, well 1st off the current or at least for me, Courier 4X4 is based on the Mazda B-series/proceed
knew it was a Mazda based 4X4, just did not know the full story!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Proceed

well found it, or at least part of it!!

and with that goes why the Ford 3.4 V6 is what it is!!

when Ford was busy developing the 3.4 one of the limiting factors was what the gearbox manufactures and Mazda were wiling to take a chance on!!

Ford SA had a choice of 3 different cams that could of gone into production for the 3.4, and Ford SA chose the worst one due to the gearbox manufactures having concerns with reliability issues with higher torque and hp out put!!

so again the 3.4 is very under powered in stock form!!
something that I plan to sort out very soon

further have found out that the Valves are sodium cooled, not yet sure if thats good or bad!!
one says good, and one says problem!! need to admit, dont know much about that topic!!

then on that history thing, there is something else out there

well as time goes on, more and more people are coming to the point that these motors (Ford 3.4L V6) are being repaired!!

some questions have started coming up, such as conrod bolts, there are a few options here!!

one is the original Ford Bolt, they are expensive and believe the ones currently have some issues!! stay away(for now) they are stretching before they get to the correct torque!! Bad!!!

then there is the option of getting ARP (think that is the correct spelling) all that is needed is a sample to get the right bolts!!

then the cheapest and easiest to get, will be VW GOLF conrod bolts!! believe they work!! and work well!! and are easily available!!

hope this comes in handy!!
